The Cubs pulled off the sweep today on the strength of three homers, the best of which was not Kris Bryant’s 495-foot monster shot or Miguel Montero’s oppo grand slam. It was Jonathan Herrera’s surprise, pinch-hit blast, which earned him a curtain call … that nobody in the crowd was asking for. It was hilarious and awesome, and I will share it as soon as it becomes available.
Kyle Hendricks gave the Cubs five solid innings, being pulled then only because an inning was lining up to be a big one and pinch-hitting in the bottom of the fifth made sense. Things got a little prickly for the Cubs in the 9th, thanks in part to Welington Castillo continuing his huge day (good for you, dude). But Cubs win, Cubs win, Cubs win.
