I really don’t feel all that bad.
Sure, you could mope about the Cubs’ failure to score the tying and/or leading run(s) with the bases loaded and nobody out, but I didn’t hate the decision to send Anthony Rizzo on the Addison Russell fly ball. Jason Heyward made a great throw, and Rizzo was out by a mile. The threat was abated, and, outside of a Jorge Soler foul ball that went 500 feet, the Cubs didn’t quite come close in the 9th.
You could be frustrated by Jon Lester getting jumped for three runs on a couple homers in the first inning, but that happens sometimes. He pitched well from there despite a tight zone – and, hey, he even picked another guy off!
Maybe I’m biased by the ridiculous and enjoyable energy at the game, but, like I said, I just don’t feel all that bad. (Though I’m still pretty angry about the dirty, bush league slide by Yadier Molina.)
In conjunction with the other shoulda-won-it games against the Cardinals this year, yes, I’ll be perturbed about this one in time. But for today, I’m breezy.
And about that 9th inning decision …
