The Cubs avoid the sweep with a solid overall performance, and I’ll save for tomorrow the implications of the win.
For tonight, I’ll note that the Cubs did a great job of getting on base, as they often do, but struggled to get many of those runners home (as they often do). It’s not really something you can “fix” with a week and a half left in the season; instead, you simply hope it’s not something that bites them in a critical game. The pitching won’t always put up a zero.
Speaking of which … what else can you say at this point about a guy who was perfect through six innings, dominant through seven, and did it all against one of the best teams in baseball that was desperately trying to beat him?
