Jake Arrieta’s regular season finale fit in perfectly with the rest of his season in all but one notable way: he went only six innings.
That, of course, was not for anything lacking in Arrieta’s performance – he was essentially perfect yet again – but was simply a nod to the much bigger start looming on Wednesday. The six innings, though, gave Arrieta an incredible 20th consecutive quality start. We’ll have much more on his remarkable, historic season over the coming weeks and months.
Anthony Rizzo drove in three, including one by knocking his 31st homer of the year. That gives him 99 RBI on the season, tying him with Kris Bryant. Who gets to 100 first?
Starlin Castro, who just keeps hitting, and Addison Russell each had a couple doubles. Fun game all around.
