There’s no other way to put it; Kris Bryant has had a fantastic rookie season. After hitting .275/.369/488 with 99 RBI (136 wRC+) and posting a 6.3 fWAR, Bryant has likely locked up the Rookie of the Year award and will probably see some down the ballot MVP votes, as well. Indeed, he essentially outperformed every projection out there, even though – at the time – those projections appeared to be a tad optimistic. In what has been a whirlwind of a season, Kris Bryant and his many magical moments have stood out.
It may come to no surprise, then, to find out that Kris Bryant is the most popular jersey for anyone on the Cubs in Major League Baseball. Yes, in a year where Bryce Harper is doing terrible things to baseballs, the Dodgers have a pair of starting pitchers fighting for second place in the NL Cy Young Award and Andrew McCutchen is leading the Pirates to their third straight playoff appearance, it is the Cubs’ rookie third baseman who is selling the most jerseys.
In fact, MLB and the MLB Player’s Association have reported that Kris Bryant has become the first rookie to ever hold that top spot on the jersey sales leader board. Six of the top ten, by the way, are 26 years of age or younger – including Anthony Rizzo at number eight overall. The Giants and Mets lead baseball with three members each, while the Cardinals (Yadier Molina) and Pirates (Andrew McCutchen) have just one apiece.
