A Whole Lotta People Watched Last Night’s Cubs-Pirates Wild Card Game
The Chicago Cubs – ok, and a little bit the Pittsburgh Pirates – are really popular.
Really, really popular:
The Cubs-Pirates averaged 8.3 million total viewers, the largest audience for an MLB game telecast on cable television since 2011.

That’s a really remarkable number when you consider that, the night before, the New York Yankees were playing in a Wild Card Game on ESPN (against the Houston Astros) and peaked at a 5.7 rating. The Cubs/Pirates game peaked at 5.8. It was the highest-rated Wild Card Game yet.
We already knew that the Cubs were as compelling as it gets in the sports story world, and it seems folks are taking notice.
