It was among the sexiest insurance runs you’ll ever see:
You didn’t just know it was gone off the bat, you knew the stadium would not hold it. Oh, except there’s a large, new video board in the way! Now homers like that won’t leave Wrigley Field unless … unless …
HOLY CRAP IT CLEARED THE BOARD!
Well, it turns out the ball didn’t quite clear the board, as it somehow rattled around up there and settled on top of the video board, as noticed by some folks on Twitter:

Back from the Cubs Game. We let the @cubs & @kschwarb12 know that we found Schwarber's home run ball. #FlyTheW pic.twitter.com/uqbhucWW1k

Immediately, folks wondered two things: (1) is that really the Schwarber ball, or is that just a batting practice ball stuck up there?; and (2) what will the Cubs do with it?
Paul Sullivan reached out to the Cubs, who confirmed that they investigated the ball and it IS the Schwarber home run ball, and they will be leaving it up there for the rest of the postseason. You should read Sullivan’s piece for the story of how it was all investigated, confirmed, photographed, and all that good stuff about the now legendary homer.
And I’m sure someone will probably want that ball – Schwarber, for example – but I can’t lie: I hope it stays there forever.
