Playoff Miscellany: Dodgers Force a Game Five as the Cubs Rest

Chicago Cubs

2015 mlb postseasonWhile we all continue to soak in the fact that the Chicago Cubs are going to the NLCS …

  • The Dodgers beat the Mets last night, which means they’ll be playing a Game Five tomorrow to determine who gets to host the Cubs. The Dodgers went with Clayton Kershaw on short rest, and he was sufficiently good that I’m reminded how much I hope the Mets win tomorrow.
  • The nice thing for the Cubs: by forcing a Game Five, the Dodgers made the Mets use Jacob deGrom tomorrow at the close of the series, meaning that he wouldn’t be available in the NLCS until, perhaps, Game Three. And ditto goes for Zack Greinke, who’ll start tomorrow for the Dodgers.
  • The Cubs, on the other hand, will be able to set things up precisely as they’d like. Having pitched on Monday, Jake Arrieta could start Game One of the NLCS on normal rest.
  • As for today, the Games Five of the ALDS are both today, with the Rangers and Blue Jays settling things this afternoon, and the Royals and Astros going tonight.
