Another playoff game, another homer for Kyle Schwarber. He crushed his fourth bomb of the postseason last night, tying him with Alex Gonzalez and Aramis Ramirez for the most by a Cub in a single postseason (yes, 2003). Postseasons are longer these days, of course, than they were a few decades ago, and the Cubs also haven’t had too many postseasons. Still, it’s neat. Hopefully Schwarber breaks the record tonight, and then keeps adding to it.
As for last night’s homer, it wasn’t just an average dinger – it was a monster shot:
That baby was crushed at 110.4mph, according to Statcast, and went 459 feet. To put that in context, it was not only the longest homer by anyone in these playoffs – which have been extremely homer-heavy – it was the longest homer by any Chicago Cub this season except the two Kris Bryant took off of the left field video board.
It was a nice highlight in an otherwise disappointing Game One of the NLCS.
