Enhanced Box Score: Mets 4, Cubs 1 – October 18, 2015

Chicago Cubs

I could point out little things here and there that, if they’d all broken in the Cubs’ direction, could have swung this game to the Cubs. Sometimes that does happen in a game that the other team plays better, and the Cubs win nevertheless. Maybe Chris Coghlan’s ball actually leaves the yard. Maybe Yoenis Cespedes’ dribbler is two feet to the right. Maybe Daniel Murphy’s 90mph, pop-fly homer is caught. Maybe more of the Cubs’ liners find grass.

But, the reality is, the Mets played some great defense, Noah Syndergaard and the Mets’ bullpen pitched very well, Jake Arrieta missed some spots at bad times, and the Cubs’ bats didn’t quite put enough together. The Mets won this game. It was closer than the score, perhaps, but the Mets definitely did their part to win it.

It felt like an “angry” loss for a few innings, but then it slid into a more simple “sad” loss …
