New Renderings of the Plaza Coming to Wrigley Field – I Am Excited

Chicago Cubs

As part of our meeting with Crane Kenney yesterday, the Cubs passed along a couple new renderings of the plaza, headed by the new office/multi-use building. Work will continue on the plaza and office throughout 2016 and the goal is to have it completed sometime during the year.

And, man, if it looks like this, it’s going to be pretty sweet (also – like BN on Facebook and follow it on Twitter!):

The Cubs released two new renderings of the plaza they’re building on the west side of Wrigley Field … please actually look like this when completed. Because it’s awesome.

For those who don’t know or don’t recall, the plaza will be on the long-discussed triangle parcel of property to the west of the ballpark, which will now also be home to the Cubs’ subterranean clubhouse. The plaza will be an open-air space, used year-round for things like concerts, shows, farmer’s markets, the skating rink, etc. There will be retail and concession-type areas. And, of course, during the season, it’ll be a gathering place for Cubs fans – as the renderings hint, there should be large video screens in the plaza, too.

I get pretty excited thinking about the plaza. I already love the Wrigleyville area, and I don’t think that will change – I’ll still want to frequent the many establishments in the neighborhood – but I’m a big fan of open-air spaces for meeting up/hanging out/people watching. Further, if the Cubs can do it right, the plaza can be a hub for Cubs-related activity when there aren’t games going on there at Wrigley.
