This afternoon saw a series of free agent transactions reported, in addition to the biggy of Alex Gordon returning to the Royals.
The Pirates picked up another reclamation arm in Neftali Feliz, whom you may not recall actually spent much of his 2015 season with the Tigers after finally being let go by the Rangers. Although he hasn’t been dominant in a while, Feliz still has significant natural ability and is just 27. That seems like the kind of arm the Pirates have had a great deal of success with in recent years, so I’m already expecting him to be great out of the Pittsburgh bullpen (which, in recent years, has been absurdly good).
According to Jeff Passan, Feliz’s deal with the Pirates with worth $3.9 million, plus incentives.
[adinserter block=”1″]Passan also reported that the Dodgers are signing Brandon Beachy to a one-year, $1.5 million deal (plus incentives). It’s more depth for the Dodgers (and Beachy was among the depth/reclamation types I discussed this weekend for the Cubs), who have an incredible volume of big league starting pitching already. Beachy was with the Dodgers last year as he came back from a second Tommy John surgery.
Beachy made his name with the Braves, who also signed a free agent – Kelly Johnson, to a $2 million deal, per Ken Rosenthal. Johnson was with the Braves last year until he was traded at midseason to the Mets … and it kinda seems like he signed on for the same thing again this year.
And one more to note, which actually came out a few days ago, but Jon Heyman adds the particulars: the Nationals have signed Stephen Drew to a one-year, $3 million deal, with some incentives on top. After that solid year with the Red Sox in 2013, Drew has had two very forgettable seasons, and he’ll be depth for the Nationals.
