The Cubs didn’t win a game last Spring Training until their eighth try. No one remembers that this year, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the team’s current 1-7 start to the Cactus League slate.
Today, the Cubs head to the Peoria Sports Complex to take on Wade Miley and the Mariners.
Jon Lester makes his Spring Training debut, like last year, later on in the Spring slate, but this time simply because the Cubs are beginning their primary starting pitchers later in the Spring.
Javy Baez gets another start in center field, where’s actually spent most of his time so far this Spring. He’ll be bookended by Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler in the outfield, which could be interesting. You’d like to know that those three could handle the outfield well enough if absolutely necessary during the regular season.
Jeimer Candelario’s big day at the plate yesterday may have earned him another start, this time as the DH.
The Mariners are broadcasting this game, which means you can watch it on MLB.tv, or late tonight in a re-airing on MLB Network. (You can check which games will be televised here.) You should also be able to listen along at MLB.com, if you’re logged into your MLB.com account, or on the At Bat app.
