[adinserter block=”1″]As should be the case when a team busts out an 11-spot, there are plenty of highlights to enjoy from yesterday’s Cubs drubbing of the Padres. So let’s enjoy some of them to start our day, shall we?
We checked out John Andreoli’s inside-the-park homer last night, but did you know that it came as part of a back-to-back set of homers? We can only dream of back-to-back-inside-the-park homers (in part because it allows me to use more consecutive hyphens than I ever thought possible), because I’m not sure if that’s ever happened before.
Instead, we’ll settle for Andreoli’s, which was preceded by a Kristopher Negron blast:

Both to the opposite field, and both carried much farther than you would have thought, given the swings. At Wrigley Field in April, those balls probably don’t even reach the wall on a bounce.
Those homers were far from the only offense, though, with a huge five-run first inning kicking things off:

I especially loved Jason Heyward’s hustle double in there, at least since it resulted in a bad throw and a run scored. Good throw and a clean handle might get Heyward on that play, but I still appreciate the decision and the effort.

That’s a ball most runners are sitting in no man’s land on, and then hustling to get to second before the throw when the ball drops. Then he makes another good read when the ball gets away, with a quick decision to take off for home – he’s safe by a mile in large part because he was paying close attention the whole way.
That wasn’t Heyward’s only double of the game – the second one cleared the bases:

It’s a unique swing, to be sure, but it definitely facilitates some line drives. That’ll play, Jason. That’ll play.
