Today, the Chicago Cubs head out to Goodyear to face the Indians and ace Corey Kluber. The Cubs left their own ace back in Mesa, where Jake Arrieta pitched five innings of scoreless ball against some upper level Rockies minor leaguers. Arrieta was comfortable the whole time, never especially challenged, and got in his work. His only moment of frustration came when he struck out on an attempted sacrifice bunt.
Pitching against the Indians instead of Arrieta is prospect Pierce Johnson, who was recently sent to minor league camp. At some point, Neil Ramirez and Justin Grimm should see action as well.
Ben Zobrist is back in the lineup after dealing with an ingrown toenail, and Javy Baez gets another start out in center field. That means today’s starting outfield goes Schwarber-Baez-Soler, which could be a bit adventurous. That said, it would be nice to know that that trio could handle it if called upon.
Today’s game is not being televised, though you can list on 670 The Score. For future reference, you can check which games will be televised here.
