The Cubs winning streak came to end yesterday, as the big league team lost to the Rangers 5-0.
But luckily, in the Futures Game, the Cubs prospects salvaged the day, beating the Rangers prospects 10-7.
When you trot out a lineup with guys like Albert Almora, Jeimer Candelario, Wilson Contreras, Billy McKinney, Gleyber Torres, Ian Happ and Mark Zagunis (damn, Daniel), it’s not hard to see why.
Today, the Cubs will head to Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Arizona (what an inspired name – says the fan of a team who’s stadium is named after a plumbing company), to take on Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants.
But don’t fear the Bay Area ace, because the Cubs are trotting out a Cy Young winner of their own, in Jake Arrieta, who looks to continue a very dominant spring. He’s also picking up the bat, and hitting ninth today – like the other starters have – to get ready for the season.
Today’s lineup is another good one, mostly full of regulars, minus Jeimer Candelario. Although, with his excellent Spring and expected 2016 production, he’ll probably be among them sooner than later. Today, Candelario is taking the start at third base, pushing Kris Bryant into left field (oh yeah, he can play the outfield, too!). I can’t get enough of this team’s versatility.
Today’s game will be broadcast on ESPN. Additional video and audio of the game will also be made available on MLB.tv or through the AtBat app. For future reference, you can check which games will be televised here.
