[adinserter block=”1″]Although it wasn’t the “perfection” win the Cubs netted last night, this one was pretty fantastic. And the Cubs are now 2-0 for the first time in 21 years.
Jon Lester was excellent through seven innings, allowing a single run, and giving Angels hitters fits all night. Like Jake Arrieta before him, he wasn’t necessarily racking up a ton of strikeouts, but he wasn’t getting squared up.
Speaking of which – most of the first time through the order, Andrew Heaney looked like he could do whatever he wanted with the Cubs. There were some ugly whiffs, weak contact, and he was putting the ball right where he intended. Looked good.
Then Matt Szczur crushed one, and the Cubs started hitting him really hard in the third inning. David Ross followed with a near homer to center for a double, Dexter Fowler singled, Jason Heyward ripped one (diving play saved it), Kris Bryant just missed one at the track in left, and Anthony Rizzo hit one way out to center field.
From there, the Cubs played solid defense, and tacked on a couple more runs courtesy of this guy …
