Lost in the shuffle of the Cubs’ first major come from behind victory of the season was the Home Opener/pre-game festivities.
Although there were several nice introductions and warm welcomes, Kyle Schwarber’s first steps on the field were greeted with roaring applause.
Having torn both his ACL and LCL and severely sprained his ankle in a collision with Dexter Fowler, the Cubs slugging left fielder/catcher will miss the entirety of the 2016 season.
But, as the Cubs and the fans were able to show, Schwarber’s 2015 heroics were hardly forgotten. First, the Cubs returned the Schwarber Ball to its rightful place atop the right field scoreboard. And then, as he was introduced onto the field, a short video played, recapping that magical moment.
Then, of course, Schwarber emerged from the dugout to thunderous applause and raucous cheers.
