Today’s Cubs Lineup: More of the Same

Chicago Cubs

I was at the Cubs/Reds game last night, and boy was it a blast (although Sluggers for the postgame celebration didn’t make my morning any easier).

We must remember to enjoy these good times while they last, though, because at some point this season, the Cubs will lose multiple games (maybe even two in a row!).

Until those days come, however, it’s all smiles and high fives.

Here’s today’s Cubs lineup against the Colorado Rockies (Chad Bettis):

  1. Dexter Fowler, CF
  2. Jason Heyward, RF
  3. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  5. Kris Bryant, 3B
  6. Jorge Soler, LF
  7. Miguel Montero, C
  8. Addison Russell, SS
  9. Kyle Hendricks, P

There aren’t many surprises in today’s lineup; it’s pretty much exactly what we’ve come to expect. With the exception of Miguel Montero and Jorge Soler moving in and out (and up and down), everyone has mostly stayed put early on.

Today, Soler takes the sixth spot ahead of Montero, because Rockies RHP Chad Bettis carries a reverse split. For his career, right handed batters are slashing .303/.360/.515 (.377 wOBA) against Bettis, with just an 18.5% strike out rate. And I’m immediately bummed, because this would have been an excellent matchup for Javier Baez, but he’ll be back soon.

I doubt this would happen, but it would be interesting to see both Ben Zobrist and Dexter Fowler take their at-bats as righties, today against Bettis. According to the numbers, that should help them out. Although, lefties have done just fine against Bettis, as well: .266/.353/.425 (.339 wOBA).

Alright, Cubbies, let’s make it six in a row.
