Dexter Fowler seemingly put yesterday’s game out of reach with this massive, no-doubt, through the wind blast. Although it didn’t go quite as far as Jorge Soler’s 417-foot shot, it did head out at approximately the same speed: 103mph. He knew it as soon as he connected, and I enjoyed watching him enjoy it.
Dexter Fowler has power, friends.
Fowler also has all the other stuff you’ve come to know and love: a patient approach, hard contact ability, and an affection for getting on base.
Indeed, so far on the young season, Fowler’s .553 OBP (LOL!) leads baseball. And he’s not just getting on base, he’s wrecking the ball: his .722 SLG is 11th best in baseball.
[adinserter block=”1″]Put together the total offensive package, and his .535 wOBA is second best in baseball, behind only Daniel Murphy (I guess he really is breaking out offensively? … nah, just a small sample (oh, Fowler’s is a small sample, too? Lay off, I’m having fun … ). Fowler’s 234 wRC+ is third best in baseball behind Murphy and Astros first baseman Tyler White.
His 1.0 WAR? Best in baseball. Again, it’s all small sample fun – Fowler’s .542 BABIP is probably going to come down quite a bit – but I am enjoying seeing Fowler’s name near the top of all these statistics, especially after an offseason that saw teams clearly undervaluing him as a possible addition.
If you want more Fowler goodness, read Luis’s recent examination of Fowler’s huge second half in 2015, and how it may have been tied to a subtle change in his contact at the plate.
