The St. Louis rains prolonged the agony, but even after a little comeback following the rain delay, the Cubs still lost the final game of this series.
Kyle Hendricks left just a few too many pitches out over the plate early, and sometimes that’s all it takes. He wasn’t bad today, but he wasn’t at his best, and the early runs he gave up were enough to carry the day for the Cardinals.
Carlos Martinez was also not quite at his best – the stuff, as it does, looked good, but the location wasn’t always on point – but he was good enough to keep the Cubs largely at bay. You don’t need me to tell you that the offense just isn’t quite clicking right now, and there will be ebbs and flows like this.[adinserter block=”1″]
That the Cubs still won two games in this series – without Jake Arrieta or Jon Lester pitching – is a very good thing.
And, hey, but for a tremendous play in the outfield by Randal Grichuk, the game could have been tied at five …
