Cubs Minor League Daily: Destructive Homers, Happ Player of the Week, More

According to Google Maps, the top of the scoreboard in Iowa’s Principal Park is right about 390 feet from home plate. According to some very rough guesstimating by your truly, the “A” in the giant lit up word “Park” on top of that scoreboard is about 90 to 95 feet off the ground.

According to Des Moines sports writer Tommy Birch, Vogelbach broke the A.

I’m thinking Iowa may need to supply hard hats to fans who sit out there. You can watch the video of the mammoth shot here.[adinserter block=”1″]

Triple A: Iowa Cubs
Iowa 13, Oklahoma City 6
The Cubs totaled seventeen hits this one.

  • Drew Rucinski: 6 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 6 H, 1 BB, 4 K.
  • Spencer Patton: 1 IP, 1 H, 3 K
  • John Andreoli: 3 for 5, 2 HR, SB. On any other day, two homers from Andreoli would be the lead.
  • Ryan Kalish: 2 for 4, BB
  • Willson Contreras: 2 for 5
  • Dan Vogelbach: 2 for 3, HR, 2 BB, 1 broken sign
  • Albert Almora: 3 for 5, 2B. Homering one day, bunting the next. He’s doing it all right now.
  • Arismendy Alcantara: 2 for 4, 2B, BB
  • Kristopher Negron: 2 for 5, SB
  • Double A: Tennessee Smokies
    Tennessee 6, Mobile 5
Skulina came within an out of having the most five-ful game line you are ever going to see.

  • Tyler Skulina: 4.2 IP, 5 R, 5 H, 5 BB, 5 K, ERA of 5.12.
  • Josh Conway: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 K
  • Jacob Hannemann: 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, SB [Brett: Seems like this guy’s been on fire, no?]
  • Chesny Young: 2 for 3, 3B, 2 BB, SB
  • Bijan Rademacher: 1 for 4, BB
  • Victor Caratini: 2 for 4, 2B, BB
  • Jeimer Candelario: 1 for 3, 2B[adinserter block=”2″]
  • High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Myrtle Beach had the night off.

    Low A: South Bend Cubs

South Bend had the night off.

    Other Notes

  • Ok, so the wind was blowing out to center at about twelves miles an hour and that might have carried the Vogelbomb a little. He still got all of that thing, and then some.
  • John Andreoli has been in the farm system a long time, and as a result I suspect some prospect fatigue has come into play. He isn’t a major prospect, but he has a pretty good chance to take a fourth or fifth outfielder job in the right situation one day. His good OBP (.372 last season) and speed (33 SB last season) should help make sure he gets a shot one of these days. He has some power, but it typically plays as doubles rather than homers. Yesterday aside, anyway.
  • Bijan Rademacher has now reached base in 32 straight games.
  • We heard yesterday about Rademacher and Paul Blackburn taking home league honors for their week, but they weren’t the only ones:
