UPDATE: The game has officially been postponed. Makeup TBA.
It’s Jake Arrieta Day, and I’d like to celebrate that fact, but I’m not sure I can.
No, I don’t mean because of the ridiculous PED rumors floating about. I mean because of the forecast, which calls for rain throughout the evening. How much rain, and how consistently it will fall, is a matter of some debate, and, since I am not a meteorologist, I’ll say only that, yeah, the forecast calls for rain.
Arrieta is following up on his second career no-hitter – which also came against the backdrop of rain that threatened to wash the game out before it began, and which also featured David Ross behind the plate. I wouldn’t bet on a repeat, because baseball history is long, and it’s happened only once. But I also wouldn’t bet against it, because, well, you don’t bet against anything that involves Arrieta unless someone says “I bet you Jake can’t lift this house.”
Taylor Jungmann (“there’s a place you can go!”) has been awful this year, but isn’t quite as bad as his numbers thus far indicate (he’s had serious control issues, but also some bad luck). Still, in theory, he’s not a guy who should hold down the Cubs.
A win tonight and the Cubs will have locked up the series with a chance to sweep on Thursday.[adinserter block=”1″]
