Someone’s going to talk to David Ross about his plans to retire after this season, right? Because the 39-year-old Cubs catcher looks as good as ever, both behind the plate, and at it.
Just ask Taylor Jungmann, who almost certainly did not see this coming:

That baby went 420 feet out onto the street, and left the bat at a blistering 105mph.
The homer was Ross’s 98th for his career, leaving him just two shy of the century mark he’s hoping to reach this year. With Miguel Montero headed to the disabled list, Ross might get there sooner rather than later.[adinserter block=”1″]
With that homer, Ross pushed his season line up to a lofty .292/.367/.583 and a 138 wRC+. Folks forget, presumably because he’s now 39 and because he’s so good defensively, but there was a long stretch with the Braves from 2009-12 when Ross consistently put up above-average offensive numbers while catching about 1/3 of their games. He’s not just a novelty item as “Grandpa Rossy” – the guy is good, and has been for a long time.
Now we wait to see if the All-Star Game campaign kicks back up …
