In full disclosure, I’ve been traveling today, so I was only able to catch bits and pieces of today’s game.
Outside of a Freddie Freeman solo homer, Jon Lester was nails, striking out 10 Braves over seven innings. Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon were fantastic thereafter.
The seventh inning was rife with huge moments (which was also when I happened to be able to follow the game a bit, so I make special mention), as each team loaded the bases but was unable to score. For the Cubs, it was a one-out David Ross double play – he hit it hard, at least – that ended it. For the Braves, it was a much more dramatic and disappointing inning. After loading the bases on an Erick Aybar bunt that Jon Lester fielded cleaning and elected not to throw, Lester got out of the inning with two strikeouts (thanks in part to a generous zone) and a groundout.[adinserter block=”1″]
In the eighth, Anthony Rizzo’s bases-loaded single gave the Cubs the run they needed to win the game, but Matt Szczur wanted to make sure it was absolutely out of reach …
