Cubs Change Up the Rotation a Bit and Other Bullets

  • With yesterday’s rainout, the Cubs elected to maneuver their rotation, which will ultimately result in a skipped start for Kyle Hendricks – so the Cubs will go John Lackey today, and keep Jason Hammel, Jake Arrieta, and Jon Lester going in Pittsburgh. If everyone had been pushed back a spot, Hendricks would have started against the Pirates instead of Lester. Of the move, Joe Maddon told Cubs.com that Hendricks didn’t need any extra rest or anything like that, and instead mentioned that he liked the way Hendricks matches up with Washington, the team the Cubs will play after the Pirates. I’m sure getting both Arrieta and Lester going against the Pirates, and staying on normal rest, was probably a big part of it, too.[adinserter block=”1″]
  • The Cubs are going to run into a very hot Pirates team this week, as they come into today having won six in a row. The Cubs will be ready, though, since they’re heading to Pittsburgh in “minimalist zany suits,” per Joe Maddon’s instruction. It’s the team’s first theme trip of the year.
  • The rainout yesterday gave Kris Bryant a free day to get more treatment on his ankle, and although he might not start today, he’ll be available off the bench, at a minimum (ESPN).
  • A great read at CSN on Adam Warren, who’s already been a big addition to the Cubs’ bullpen.
  • Cardinals righty Carlos Martinez was away from the team a bit this weekend to deal with a lawsuit, but he’ll be back in time to make his start today against the Nationals.[adinserter block=”2″]
  • If you don’t want to get a BN shirt (you animal), it looks like there are at least a few Cubs shirseys on sale at Amazon, though limited supplies.
  • A new Cubs Let’s Go spot is out, and it features an incredibly athletic Addison Russell:
