Ben Zobrist is The NL Player of the Week … Along with Bartolo Colon

Chicago Cubs

If you caught the most recent Series Review of the Cubs’ sweep over the Nationals this weekend, you’ll know that Ben Zobrist, who has been crazy hot, was our BN Stud of the Series.

He had a heck of a weekend, and hit three home runs from Thursday-Sunday to put him on top of every other Cub.

Despite already receiving that really famous, super-important honor and distinction, MLB went ahead and gave him NL Player of the Week honors, as well.

Except, he’s sharing that honor with the almost-43-years-old Bartolo Colon of the New York Mets!

For the week, Zobrist slashed .360/.455/.880, including 4 home runs. He also continued to walk (14.7%) a lot more than he struck out (5.9%) and he did all of this despite a .238 BABIP. It truly was an excellent week for Ben Zobrist and he deserved this award (no matter how redundant it was with the Stud of the Series /s).

His co-winner, Bartolo Colon, also had himself a week. In addition to hitting his first career home run at the age of 42 and 11 months (the oldest ever player to hit his first home run in the Major Leagues), Colon won both of his games (albeit against the Padres and Braves). In his 14.2 innings of work, he allowed just 13 hits and 1 walk while striking out 12 opposing batters. He gave up a total of just three home runs over the course of both games and finished with a pitchers slash line of 1.84/2.53/3.54. I guess he also had a nice week.
