Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 9, Pirates 4 – May 13, 2016

That’s what you needed, wasn’t it?

It’s OK to admit it now that the game is over. It’s OK to admit that, despite how good the Cubs have been this year, and despite knowing that it is impossible for a big league team to win 80% of its games for an entire season, and despite knowing that many of the losses that inevitably come will come against bad teams … you were a little unhinged by the Padres’ doubleheader sweep.

I was.

Not, like, long-term. I had no doubts about this Cubs team. It just made me feel really crummy. Then, we had an entire off-day to stew in the unsavory juices of discontent.[adinserter block=”1″]

So today’s win – a blowout against the Pirates and Francisco Liriano – was exactly what we (the fans) needed. We are that lame.

Jason Hammel was really fantastic through 6.2 innings on a tough day to pitch. Not only did he strike out eight and allow just two runs on eight hits and two walks, he got eight(!) groundouts and zero(!) fly outs. That’s how you do it on a day with the breeze blowin’ out.

The bats took advantage of that wind with three homers, and hey, how about this box score quirk:
