Even after improving their run differential last night, Iowa remains in third place in the division, three games behind Oklahoma City. They are two games over .500, though, and have been playing quite well lately. They’ll need to keep playing well given that they remain on a trip out west. Their current series in Reno extends through Tuesday, and on Thursday they open a set in Tacoma.
The Smokies had rough week, one that included a couple close loses late in games or comebacks that fell just short, and as a result they are tied for last place, six games out of first. Tennessee’s record is 16-20. They are at home all this week; hopefully they can get a winning streak going.
Myrtle Beach has the misfortune to be playing in the same division as a juggernaut. Even though they are 19-15, they are still in second and five and a half games back of Salem. If the Red Sox promote some prospects out of High A and Salem comes back to earth a bit, the Pelicans still have plenty of time to turn this into a race.[adinserter block=”1″]
The Pelicans continue a short road trip in Frederick today (I’ll be in the stands for that game) and tomorrow, and then head home for the rest of the week.
South Bend has pulled into first place by a game over Lake County. The Cubs (21-13) have moved up the standings despite spending the week on the road. They all spend all of this week on the road as well, wrapping up with a series in second place Lake County starting Friday.
Triple A: Iowa Cubs
Iowa 17, Reno 2
Every starter got at least one hit and scored at least once. This was not a DH game.
Double A: Tennessee Smokies
Birmingham 11, Tennessee 1
Even though it was an ugly loss, Zastryzny had a decent start.
High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Myrtle Beach 11, Frederick 3
The Pelicans broke the game open in the fifth.
Low A: South Bend Cubs
South Bend 6, Lansing 2
A five run fourth gave the Cubs all the runs they would need.
