Chicago Cubs Lineup: Rizzo Second, Szczur Gets a Start
With the series on the line, and Madison Bumgarner on the mound, here’s the lineup that’ll try to win tonight:
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Jorge Soler, LF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Matt Szczur, RF
- David Ross, C
- Kyle Hendricks, P
That’s Anthony Rizzo slotting up into the two-hole (the most important spot in the order, by the way) for the first time in a long time. The move is the product of Jason Heyward being out of the lineup, but then, Heyward’s missed a handful of games this year and Rizzo hasn’t batted second yet. Thus, you wonder if it’s a combo move to help try and spur Rizzo out of a mini-slump. Of course, facing Bumgarner isn’t an easy task as a slumpbuster.
Matt Szczur makes his first start since going out a few weeks ago with a hamstring injury. Although he was looking solid at the plate before the injury, you’re going to have to give him some leeway tonight. Not only is Bumgarner good, but Szczur hasn’t really faced much live, in-game pitching in weeks. It could be a struggle.
Full Pre-Gamin’ comes closer to game time.
