WATCH: Kris Bryant Goes Deep Against The Cardinals

Chicago Cubs

Despite an early five run lead, the Cubs let the Cardinals back into this game (eventually twice). First, Jake Arrieta couldn’t quite hold their offense down, allowing four runs to score in his five innings of work. He left with just a two run lead, but that lead didn’t hold for more than an inning, because, well, Kris Bryant:

(Also, A+ on the Yadier-Molina-related shade in the tweet.)

That home run was Bryant’s tenth of the season, which is just one behind team leader Anthony Rizzo (11). The homer was Bryant’s second hit of the day and improved his season slash line up to .279/.365/.503. He’s been on fire lately.

Unfortunately, the runs from that home run were erased an inning later, when Matt Holliday hit his 7th homer of the season, a three run shot to right center field. Good thing Bryant gave the Cubs some room, eh?
