With their win yesterday, the Cubs have won three in a row, which for me is just shy of enough to be called a winning streak. A win today, and they’ll clear my own completely arbitrary mental hurdle of what constitutes a “winning streak.” Four. I need to see four.
The Phillies have done one thing well this year – pitch – and today’s starter, Jerad Eickhoff, has been a big part of that. You may not be familiar with the tall righty, but he was a legit prospect with the Rangers who came over as a less-heralded part of the Cole Hamels trade. From there, he got a shot to pitch in the big leagues, and he’s been better than solid ever since.
His one weakness so far, however, has been against left-handed bats, and today, he will face several good ones from the Cubs.
