In his first at bat tonight against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Mike Bolsinger, Kris Bryant didn’t look so good. Bolsinger offered Bryant a diet of curveballs – three straight, to be exact – and Bryant looked completely lost.
But, here’s the thing about Kris Bryant: he is among the best at-bat-to-at-bat adjustment-makers in all of baseball, even at his young age. If you made him look foolish on a mediocre curveball in his first at bat, just enjoy your victory. Whatever you do, don’t go back to that well …
… or else that happens.
Bryant happily sat back on that pitch, and then sent it out at 102 mph (impressive when the pitch didn’t supply any velocity), 423 feet into the batter’s eye. That was Bryant’s 12th homer of the year, and gave the Cubs a 2-1 lead.
