Chicago Cubs

That’s a series win for the Cubs! When it comes to four-gamers against the Dodgers, that’s quite an accomplishment, even for a very good Cubs team, and even in a series where Clayton Kershaw buffed the bench with his hindquarters. (He did not pitch, I mean.)

Kyle Hendricks was fantastic for the second straight start, keeping Dodgers hitters off balance for eight strong innings, allowing only a solo homer and a second run that was aided by a pitch that could have been blocked at the plate. He is pitching very well, and very confidently right now.

Meanwhile, the Cubs beat up on youngster Julio Urias, taking him deep three times, and put up six runs (not all his fault, but also didn’t fool too many batters up there). That included a rocket two-run shot by Javier Baez and back-to-back homers from Jason Heyward and Kris Bryant, the second of which went off the left field video board. Anthony Rizzo added a homer later off of J.P. Howell, which was very nice to see.

But back to Baez for a minute, because he had one heck of an all-around game, right down to the final play, when he snagged a hard liner and made a quick, strong throw to first base to turn two.
