Kyle Schwarber’s Knee Rehab Progressing Nicely

Chicago Cubs

You may have noticed Kyle Schwarber seated prominently in the dugout last night during the Cubs’ 2-1 win over the Dodgers:

Out since the first week of the season after suffering a serious knee injury, Schwarber’s rehab is progressing well, according to GM Jed Hoyer.

Schwarber recently flew to Dallas to have his knee examined by the doctor who performed the surgery to repair his ACL and LCL, and Hoyer says that the reports are “very good” (Tribune) and notes that Schwarber is down to one crutch instead of two (

Beyond letting us know that the doctors were pleased, we probably aren’t going to get too much more in the way of specifics on Schwarber’s status here in the early going of what will ultimately be a many, many month process of rehab and recovery. I’m assuming we’ll get updates as he hits certain benchmarks, like this one, but perspective remains the order of the day: the hope is still that Schwarber will be back in time for Spring Training next year.

So far, it sounds like things are going well on his recovery, though, and hopefully his spirits are as up as they can be. It’s good to see him around the team, too.
