Chicago Cubs

Another win for the Cubs today, and that’s 10 of their last 11. Remarkable, this team.

On the balance, I thought Jason Hammel looked pretty good today, even as he struggled a bit with his slider early on. You were mostly looking for health, and he gave that and more. The only two runs he gave up came in the first inning when Paul Goldschmidt battled his way into a very close walk (tip your cap), and Jake Lamb took one bad pitch out to right. That was it for the D-Backs during Hammel’s seven innings. Great start for him, and a great bounce back after the hamstring cramp.

Offensively, the Cubs got a couple runs on a bases-loaded, two-out single from Hammel, himself, aided by the ball hitting second base on its way up the middle. Dexter Fowler homered to lead the game off for the Cubs, Anthony Rizzo added a blast of his own later on, and Jorge Soler had a run-scoring double.

And, hey, Hector Rondon even got to save the game!
