Today is a good day for a sweep, eh?
You’ve got to like the Cubs’ chances with Jake Arrieta on the mound, but, of course, as we saw in his very last start, the Cubs can still lose on Jake Arrieta Day. (Even when Arrieta, himself, pitches quite well.)
The Cubs will face lefty Patrick Corbin, who has not returned to form post-Tommy John surgery, or at least not this year. Righties are destroying Corbin this season to the tune of a .290/.344/.505 line, and he’ll face plenty of them today.
It’s fun to think about how good Jake Arrieta has been this year, and then think about how not-even-close his performance this year has been to his numbers from last year, particularly that second half stretch.
Why is that fun? Because, again, Arrieta has still been crazy good this year … and if he follows last year’s pattern, he could just keep getting better as the season goes on.
