Albert Almora had a nice game in left field with some quality catches, and a double that led to a run … but that was just about it for the Cubs in this one. Jason Hammel was not at his best, getting hit hard up in the zone. Justin Grimm and Clayton Richard once again struggled out of the pen, with the former allowing the only three batters he faced to reach, and the latter then allowing two of those runners to score after coming in with the bases loaded.
The bats could do nothing against Bud Norris and Jim Johnson, each of whom has been awful this year. The bats also couldn’t do anything against Arodys Vizcaino, but he’s been really good, so that’s understandable. The Cubs were without Anthony Rizzo last night, so that certainly didn’t help.
All around, an ugly game against a team that has won only as many games as the Cubs have lost.
