Chicago Cubs Lineup: Almora Draws the Start, Fowler Gets a Breather
The Cubs won last night, which means they have a chance to take the series with a win today against the tough Stephen Strasburg.
But there’s more to be excited about today, because look who’s patrolling center field.
Chicago Cubs Lineup vs. Washington Nationals (Stephen Strasburg):
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Kris Bryant, LF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Miguel Montero, C
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Javy Baez, 3B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Hammel, P
After getting the big game winning double last night, Joe Maddon has awarded Albert Almora with his first Major League start in center field. I’m not kidding when I say I hope the Nationals are smoking balls out to center, so that Almora has a chance to flash some of that Gold Glove caliber leather. Dexter Fowler, then, gets a breather after a nice game yesterday, himself (2-5, 2B). Having his switch-hitting bat available off the bench could be a nice luxury, too, if this is another close game.
This is a fun string of facts: In addition to Albert Almora in center field, Javy Baez sticks at third, Kris Bryant’s out in left, Addison Russell mans shortstop, and Anthony Rizzo is at first base. It’s like one of those dream lineups we used to doodle in our notebooks (and on message boards), while getting laughed at, because “It’s never gonna happen.” Well, here we are.
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.
