Chicago Cubs Lineup: Fowler (Hamstring) Sits, No Contreras
Dexter Fowler sits today after his hurt his hamstring last night, but the Cubs haven’t placed him on the disabled list and Jesse Rogers hears via a source that the injury is not considered serious. Hopefully that means a day or two or three of rest for Fowler, and then he’s right back in there. When it comes to a hamstring issue, that would be a huge win.
Although we’d hoped to see Willson Contreras making his first start tonight, he’s not in the lineup against the young righty.
Chicago Cubs Lineup vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Jameson Taillon):
- Chris Coghlan, LF
- Jason Heyward, CF
- Kris Bryant, RF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Miguel Montero, C
- Addison Russell, SS
- Javy Baez, 3B
- Kyle Hendricks, P
From the look of the lineup, perhaps the Cubs feel they’ve got a better shot rattling Taillon with the lefties at the plate. Taillon was split-neutral in the minors this year, and then didn’t pitch in the two seasons before that due to injuries, so … shrug. Either they’ve seen something with their scouting, or it was just the right time to start Montero rather than Contreras. You can bet on seeing the youngster behind the plate tomorrow.
As for the rest of the lineup, Kris Bryant continues to move around, as he’s so very good at doing, and Javy Baez stays at third base, where he’s been flashing the leather.
Chris Coghlan fills in at the leadoff spot for Fowler.
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.
