Jason Hammel had trouble keeping his pitches down early, and it cost him in the form of four quick runs. Like the three runs the Cardinals got early last night, those were the only runs they’d get.
… but, like last night, they were the only runs they’d need. The Cubs scratched back into this one, though they left a lot of runs on the board in the process.
Addison Russell had a very nice all-around game, and Chris Coghlan continues to do well enough post-trade. The bullpen was solid, including a nice debut by Gerardo Concepcion.
But the loss is the loss, and the Cardinals are the Cardinals.
