What four game losing streak? I have no memory of any such occurrence.
Thanks to a grit-your-teeth-and-clench-your-you-know-what win last night, the Cubs ended any recent woes, at least as far as consecutive losses are concerned.
Today, John Lackey will take the mound, looking to rebound from his first so-so outing in a very long time. He’ll have Miguel Montero behind the plate for him, and a new left fielder behind him in Willson Contreras. He’s a great athlete, so I have no doubt he can handle the role from that perspective. Getting reads on the ball, making the right cut-versus-dive decisions, etc., can probably only come with experience. Contreras hasn’t played in the outfield yet this year in the bigs or minors, and hasn’t played there at any level since 2014, when he logged a single inning in the outfield in the Venezuelan Winter League. As long as the bat plays, eh?
The Cubs will face journeyman Paul Clemens, who I can only assume is the less-respected nephew of Roger Clemens, though I am not going to check on that.
