Enhanced Box Score: Mets 4, Cubs 3 – June 30, 2016
The Mets came into this series limping, and, through six innings tonight it looked like they were going to keep on limping.
But another ineffective appearance by Joel Peralta and a horribly-timed error by Javy Baez gave the Mets new life and the lead after trailing 3-1 on the strength of a Baez homer and a Kris Bryant homer.
The Cubs had a perfect chance to come back in the 9th, putting runnings on second and third to open the frame, but Jeurys Familia bore down and that nasty sinker abused Kris Bryant and Willson Contreras (with an Anthony Rizzo intentional walk in between), and Javy Baez harmless popped out to end it.
A late blown loss, a late blown offensive inning, and a one-run loss. That’s pretty much the trifecta of frustration.
