Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Mets (6:10 CT) – Lineup, Broadcast Info, Game Thread
The bad news is that the Cubs dropped game one against the Mets; the good news is that there’s three more to go! That is good news, right?
But then again, tonight’s match-up is against Jacob deGrom, who’s been quite good if you haven’t noticed. In his last time out (against the Braves) deGrom threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball, with just one walk against six strikeouts. Still, with just a 23.6% strikeout rate overall, he’s been a less dominant pitcher in 2016.
Countering deGrom for the Cubs is Jason Hammel, who continues to be the beneficiary of much better results (2.58 ERA) than his performance would otherwise suggest (3.88 FIP). He, too, had a nice last outing against the Marlins (6.0 IP, 2ER, 4H, 2BB, 3Ks). He’ll face the exact same lineup that John Lackey faced yesterday.
Willson Contreras and Javy Baez continue to draw merit start after merit start, due to excellent work at the plate and in the field. Jason Heyward is back in right field after a short absence with some soreness on his side, and Albert Almora Jr. continues to fill in for Dexter Fowler in center field.
The Cubs are still looking for their sweet revenge for the 2015 NLCS. Might I suggest starting tonight?
