The Cubs and Mets waited out three rain delays to finish this one, which made the whole enterprise doubly unfortunate. It was nice to see Spencer Patton and Trevor Cahill get in scoreless work. It was not so nice that they had to do so when the Cubs’ bullpen was already fairly well-used. I suppose at least it was only two relievers.
The Cubs didn’t have to go nuts with reliever match-ups, of course, because the game was already well out of reach by the time starter Jason Hammel left the game. Tough night to pitch? Yes, but the command wasn’t there, and he got hammered. Jacob deGrom fared much better.[adinserter block=”1″]
All in all, just a no fun, not great night. You’ll have those.
