The Cubs recently promoted middle infielder Andruw Monasterio from Eugene to South Bend, and as a result the SB Cubs now have a double play combo of Monasterio at short and Carlos Sepulveda at second. Both of these players are just 19 years old, and both are playing very well. It is quite possible we are looking at the next in a very long run of very good Cubs infield prospects.
That infield pipeline began well before the new front office took over. Starlin Castro was one of the early ones, as was Darwin Barney. And then we have Junior Lake, and Marco Hernandez, and Arismendy Alcantara, and Javier Baez, and Addison Russell, and Gleyber Torres, and Ian Happ, and now (perhaps) Monasterio and Sepulveda. That is about as good of a run of middle infielders as we are likely to see from any organization. When you consider that everyone I listed before Torres has reached the Major Leagues, it becomes even more impressive.[adinserter block=”1″][adinserter block=”10″]
Triple A: Iowa Cubs
Colorado 11, Iowa 7
The Cubs scored three times in both the third and the seventh.
Double A: Tennessee Smokies
The game was started, but rain resulted in a suspension with the Smokies trailing 9 to 8 in the top of the fifth. The game will be completed today, so the highlights from this will one will show up in tomorrow’s Daily.[adinserter block=”2″]
High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Winston-Salem 13, Myrtle Beach 9
Low A: South Bend Cubs
South Bend 5, Fort Wayne 3
The Chicago and South Bend Cubs are now tied with 52 wins apiece.
Short Season A: Eugene Emeralds
The Emeralds were rained out.
Rookie: Arizona Cubs
Cubs 10, Padres 4
The Cubs jumped to the front with a four run first and never trailed from there.
