There are two really good games in the minor leagues today, but unfortunately neither of them are on MiLB.tv. The two games we do get aren’t bad, though. Plus, the Triple-A All-Star Game is tonight.
First on the watchable list is Chattanooga at Tennessee for a 12:05 PM ET start. The Smokies send Paul Blackburn and his 2.83 ERA to the mound. Blackburn has pitched very well this year, but he has been oddly lacking in strikeout given his very good numbers in other areas. He’s never been a high strikeout guy, but his career low ERA is paired with a K/9 of just 5.85. Still, he’s one of the best starters on the Smokies staff and is well worth watching.
The watchable night game is Frederick at Myrtle Beach. This is a match up of two pretty good teams featuring a lot of good talent (headlined by Gleyber Torres), and the Pelicans have a good video feed. Watching the Pelicans is not a bad plan. If you do watch, you’ll see Jeremy Null, the towering right hander, take the hill for the Pelicans. He’s had an up and down season, but at worst he generally keeps the game close.
And now for the games we don’t get to see. South Bend one of the best teams in the league, will be in Clinton, another of the best teams in the league. The Cubs are starting Preston Morrison (2.44 ERA) and Clinton is countering with Ronald Dominguez (2.63 ERA). This has all the earmarks of a very good game, but Clinton is not wired for video. We can listen to it, though, via the South Bend Cubs website (linked below).[adinserter block=”1″]
Eugene, as usual, provides the night cap. Since they are on the road, visiting a good Tri-City team, there will be no video of this one either. And that’s unfortunate both because the Emeralds are playing fantastic baseball right now and because they are sending high ceiling lefty Bryan Hudson to the mound. In Hudson’s last start he gave up a career high in hits (four) and runs (four). Unfortunately, we won’t be able to watch his bounce back start.
