Enhanced Box Score: Mets 2, Cubs 1 – July 19, 2016

Chicago Cubs

It would be correct to point out that the Mets scored the game winner when Rene Rivera – he of the .190/.270/.316 – floated his third hit of the night into right field, and did it with two outs and the Cubs’ fine closer on the mound.

It would be correct for that to annoy the dickens out of you.

It would be correct to point out that the Cubs squandered an ungodly number of prime scoring opportunities with baserunning gaffes, questionable decisions, poor execution, and bum sequencing.

It would be correct for that to annoy the bejeezus out of you.

It would be correct to point out that the 9th inning punctuated – almost comedically – the kind of night that it was for the Cubs’ bats, loading the bases against closer Jeurys Familia with nobody out, and then failing to score.

It would be correct for that to annoy the crap out of you, particularly when he once again barely threw an actual strike in the entire inning.

So many ridiculous and awful things had to happen for the Cubs to lose that game that I shudder to even let myself start to think about how many ridiculous and awful things had to happen for the Cubs to lose as many as they did before the break. Nope. Not going there.
