The Cubs simply couldn’t get it going offensively tonight, thought it wasn’t entirely a matter of terrible at bats and poor decisions – it was just kind of one of those games where the ball doesn’t find the grass or clear the wall. I have a tough time getting riled up about those ones.
I also have a tough time getting too riled up about the pitching. John Lackey was pretty much John Lackey, and that’s fine. The Cubs clearly want to give Clayton Richard and Adam Warren continued looks as they are going to be making some big bullpen decisions soon (neither pitched well tonight). Mike Montgomery gave up a just-barely-out opposite field homer in his debut. Inauspicious, sure, but I mostly shrug. [adinserter block=”1″]
I don’t love that Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a huge game – including two homers – when he came into the game hitting .195/.310/.343. That’s about the only thing that salts my cracker from this one.
Plus, I really can’t be too angry tonight …
