Chicago Cubs Lineup: La Stella Leads Off, Fowler Rests, Outfield Shifts

Chicago Cubs

happy cubs old logoThe Cubs are trotting out a new-look lineup in today’s attempt at winning their third consecutive series since their return from the All-Star break.

Jon Lester’s turn in the rotation means David Ross behind the plate. Lester pitched well (7.2 IP, 1 ER) in Monday’s win against the Mets and will look to carry any momentum from that start against a Brewers team he has not faced since beating them on Aug. 13, 2015.

Here is the Cubs’ lineup tasked with pushing across runs against Junior Guerra.

Chicago Cubs Lineup vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Guerra)

  1. Tommy La Stella, 2B
  2. Kris Bryant, 3B
  3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  4. Ben Zobrist, RF
  5. Willson Contreras, LF
  6. Jason Heyward, CF
  7. Addison Russell, SS
  8. David Ross, C
  9. Jon Lester, P
Changes across the board for the Cubs’ Sunday lineup. Notably absent is center fielder Dexter Fowler, who gets a day off three days into his return from the disabled list (hamstring). Tommy La Stella takes over those duties, while Jason Heyward will patrol center field.

Willson Contreras moves from behind the plate and back into left field, while Ben Zobrist shifts over to right. Zobrist has started a different position in each game this series.

The only Cubs players to record a hit off Guerra in their careers are all on the bench today. Miguel Montero (2-for-3), Jason Hammel (1-for-2) and Fowler (1-for-4) are the only Cubs to record hits off Guerra. The rest of the lineup is 0-for-13 with eight strikeouts.
